A morning in the Mara
Before the first tracks appear in the soft red dust.
The Mara is at its most generous before the day has decided what it is. The grass is still bent from the night, the air is cool, and the tracks in the road are few. This is the hour a game drive is for.
You leave camp with a flask and a plan that is allowed to change. A pride may be on a rise. A river may be empty. The point is to be out while the light is low and the plains are still waking, then to come back for breakfast when the heat begins.
Later there is often a second drive, toward evening, when the cats move again. Between them, the afternoon is for the camp, the riverbank, and doing very little. The Mara rewards people who are willing to be there twice in a day, and willing to miss nothing by rushing.
We never promise what the morning will hold. We only make sure you are out in it.
